Aromatic Oils … Often referred to as Fragrant Oils, are formulated to add a fragrance not normally found in Essential Oils, or if found are prohibitively expensive. They are extremely rich, complex and long lasting and are produced with the latest technical equipment including mass spectroscopy, gas chromatography, simulated critical fluid extraction, and rotary vapor extraction methods to create Aromatic Oils are of premium grade. They are man-made oils, manufactured to imitate a naturally occurring scent. They are created in a lab, meaning all fragrance oils do not come fully from nature, a couple of examples are Violet Oil smells like damp straw, there’s no Strawberry Oil or Pineapple Oil. Aromatic Oils get their name because they are made by isolating naturally derived fragrance components from a complex scent. This includes limonene derived from lemons, vanillin derived from vanilla beans and geraniol from roses. These are the Oils to opt for if you have sensitive skin, sensitivities to certain fragrances or are planning to use these in a gift to someone with allergies.
Essential Oils … These Oils are concentrated so that they contain the essence, characteristics and fragrance of the plant. Essential oils are extracted from plants using a process known as distillation, most commonly using water or steam. This process uses many parts of the plant, including the flowers, stems, bark, and roots. The finished product is the highly concentrated essential oil, which has the same properties and scent characteristics as the original plant. That does include the smell, but it also includes other elements such as the plant’s healing abilities. It’s easy to see why essential oils are so popular: you get a highly potent form of the plant or herb you want to use – and you need a much smaller quantity to achieve the same effects. Essential oils are often very strong and potent; their smell can be overpowering and intolerable for sensitive individuals. They can be more expensive in their pure form.
What to look for … There are countless aroma oils on the market, but you shouldn’t buy just any. Keep in mind that Aromatic Oils are not all created equal. Some are made with synthetic chemicals and lab-created fragrance compounds. While these can be cheaper, they are also lower-quality when it comes to their scent and their impact on your health and mood.
Use … Essential Oils and Aromatic Oils can be used in a similar way. However, one must be aware of the effectiveness and intensity of the oils.
The Oil Burner … Use up to six drops in your Oil Burner with water or soy wax. If you use water, start with warm water, this saves time for the candle to warm the water first, don’t let the dish run dry, they can crack and break. If using Soy Wax just make sure you don’t add too much as it may overflow when melted. After use the wax will set solid, next use the heat source will melt the wax ready for your next use. I prefer wax because it saves water running out and having to get more water each time, the downside is the wax will discolour depending on the Oils you’re using.

If you’re blending, still only use a maximum of six drops, try Grapefruit and Rosemary, try your own ratio. Experiment. Play.
